NVIDIA Driver audio HD is a device driver that enables digital audio over HDMI and DisplayPort on PCs with NVIDIA graphics hardware. It integrates with Windows to expose your TV, monitor, or A/V receiver as an audio playback device, supporting up to 7.1-channel output and passthrough of popular home‑theater formats when supported by your GPU, display chain, and playback software. It’s commonly used to get sound from your PC to an HDMI display or receiver, improve A/V sync for games and video, and resolve “no sound over HDMI/DP” issues.

Key points:

  • Provides high‑definition audio over HDMI/DisplayPort from compatible NVIDIA GPUs
  • Supports multichannel PCM and format passthrough when hardware and apps allow
  • Automatically detects device capabilities (via EDID) for correct channel/sample rate options
  • Installs with NVIDIA GeForce/Studio drivers; can be added via Custom installation
  • For Windows systems; requirements and features may vary by GPU, OS version, and display

Notes:

  • Not needed for analog or USB audio devices—use it specifically for HDMI/DP audio.
  • After installation, select “NVIDIA High Definition Audio” as the default playback device in Windows and ensure your display/receiver is audio‑capable.
